  School Success Stories

New Jersey

Anthony V. Ceres Elementary School
Perth Amboy, NJ

Dear Team Nutrition,

3-D Food PyramidsEnclosed is a picture from the culminating activity of the year for my gifted and talented Health students. This year we implemented many activities to educate the students and staff of our school on the importance of good nutrition. Some of our activities included: a food group play where the students dressed as many foods from each group on the food pyramid and spoke on their nutrients and importance; planning the breakfast and lunch menus for the students to eat during National Nutrition Week; making posters and talking to each classroom about balanced healthy diets and especially healthy snacks; and constructing 3-D Food Pyramids (as pictured).

Not only did our students and staff learn a lot, but we had a lot of fun and look forward to many more innovative programs for next year.

The students and staff at A.V. Ceres School are proud to be a part of Team Nutrition! Thank you for all your information.

Sincerely yours,
Mrs. Linda S. Kovalsky

James F. Murray PS #38
Jersey City, New Jersey

"You are what you eat" was the healthy foods theme for Team Nutrition Days at PS #38 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Students dressed up in costumes of their favorite healthy foods and paraded around the school in celebration of nutrition and health. This activity generated conversation about the different foods' nutritional value, how these foods taste, where they are grown, and what combinations of foods taste good.
