South School
Londonderry, New Hampshire

Fruit MobilesOn February 20, 2002, Londonderry South School held its annual first grade Nutrition Fair, sponsored by the South School PTA Enrichment Committee. It was a fun-filled night, full of information about healthy eating. Each year, the first grade teachers dedicate an entire month to an educational unit about nutrition. This unit places special emphasis on how healthy eating habits have a positive impact on overall wellness. The Nutrition Fair was originally conceived as a means of reinforcing these valuable classroom lessons.

Children's projectsIn addition to providing valuable information, the Nutrition Fair also strives to entertain. This year's program included a concert put together by South School's music director, Jim Fothergill, an art display created by the first graders under the direction of art teacher Marcia Connors, and a nutrition-based skit performed by Mrs. Duval's fourth graders. Rounding out the event was the sale of a cookbook complied by the first graders and a visit from the Food and Nutrition Service's mascot, the Power Panther.
